Master’s Caucus Plans
GEO’s Masters Caucus organizes students in Master’s, Professional, or Certificate programs (e.g., those pursuing JD, MA, MBA, MPH, MPP, MS, MSW, etc.). We advocate not only for the concerns of Master’s GSI/GSSAs, but also the rights of Master’s students as laborers, residents, students, and owners of the University at large. Our enduring hope is to strive for a future where every Master’s student has the opportunity to secure funding for their education for at least one semester.

Information Access
- The University shall host a webpage containing information about GSI and GSSA employment, including the prior academic year’s percentage of master’s students who worked as GSI or GSSA by departments.
- Each job posting will include the number of applications received for the position in the previous academic year, when that information is available.
Streamlined Application Process
- Departments will not require students to submit application materials through any system separate from the University job postings website.
- Except for teaching positions in a studio course, each position application will require only a cover letter, a resume/CV, a transcript or transcripts, teaching history and evaluations, and a ranking of multi-position applications when relevant. For first-round applications, departments should not require supplemental application materials such as recommendation letters, any essays in addition to the statement of interest, or letters from an academic advisor.
- Postings will clearly state when an instructor prefers or requires for their GSI to have taken the class previously.
Status Notification
- Once the posting has been filled, appointing units will provide notification to all unsuccessful applicants within 10 business days.
Class Size Policy
- Each department employing GSIs will establish a class size policy for classes to which GSIs are assigned, including the maximum number of students in each section and the maximum ratio of students to GSIs.
