At this week’s stewards meeting, GEO voted to send the following letter the the Universities of Wisconsin Madison, and Milwaukee, as a statement of solidarity.

“Solidarity Statement to UW-Madison/ Solidarity Statement to UW-Milwaukee
Graduate Employees Organization (GEO)- AFT Local 3550

We, the Stewards Council of the Graduate Employees Organization (GEO) of the University of Michigan, are writing because we are deeply concerned with recent political action in the state of Wisconsin. We understand that Governor Scott Walker has issued a proposal that would essentially eliminate collective bargaining rights for the 175,000 union workers in Wisconsin. The “budget-repair” measure not only erodes collective bargaining rights, but also increases the amount public employees pay into healthcare and pensions. All eyes are on the state of Wisconsin, as the future of the state’s labor force hangs in the balance. We feel that the actions of Governor Scott Walker are a rash attempt to silence and divide Wisconsin’s unionized workforce. Thus, we stand in solidarity against Governor Scott Walker’s proposal and with our union brothers and sisters fighting back.”

GEO continues to send our thoughts and support to the workers in Wisconsin, as they fight to keep their rights.
