JULY 29, 2026 — The Graduate Employees’ Organization (AFT Local 3550) stands in solidarity with the Neighborhood Defender Service Union (UAW Local 2325) in their fight for a fair contract.
The NDSU represents over 230 public defenders—including social workers, administrative professionals, attorneys, and advocates—who represent low-income residents of Harlem and the Bronx; Detroit and Wayne County, Michigan; and San Marcos, Texas, in criminal, family, housing, and immigration matters at the Neighborhood Defender Service (NDS). They are talented, relentless advocates, and they deserve to have their contractual demands met. These demands include continued cost-free healthcare and fair cost-of-living adjustments that keep pace with inflation. These demands are more than reasonable.
We therefore urge NDS management to:
1.) maintain the status quo of cost-free healthcare for members, and
2.) provide cost of living adjustments that keep pace with the rising cost of living.
In solidarity,
Graduate Employees’ Organization (AFT Local 3550)
