Bargaining by the Numbers
- 53 – Proposals shared by GEO with HR
- 50 – Days since bargaining kick-off
- 40 – Hours spent by GEO at the bargaining table
- 21 – Hours spent by HR at the bargaining table
- 0 – Counteroffers made by HR
What is HR trying to hide?
GEO has passed its entire platform; HR has not passed a single counteroffer. In past cycles members had already received counteroffers by this point. GEO members have been diligently coming to the table ready to bargain in good faith, but HR does not seem willing to proceed with any productive discussion unless GEO members give up their right to be in the room where their livelihoods are being discussed.
HR continues to flout their legal responsibility, wasting valuable time and taxpayer money (see below), by actively refusing to bargain with GEO members. After GEO’s initial passing of Disability proposals, HR walked out of the room and never came back, instead speaking through a state-appointed mediator and continuing to push back against graduate worker demands of open and accessible bargaining to all graduate workers.
HR continues to insist on conducting negotiations behind closed doors by limiting attendance to a 15-member bargaining team, effectively excluding almost the entire graduate worker population, who will be directly impacted by the contract being negotiated.
“I’m really distressed that the University & HR have been so resistant to give marginalized voices the space to share their concerns.” – Ira, School of Information
