GEO is seeking to hire a full-time Organizer/Member Mobilizer. Candidates should have strong organizing and administrative skills, experience working with diverse populations, and demonstrated commitment to a participatory and progressive
labor movement.
Brief Description of Responsibilities
• Work with one other staff person and members to mobilize graduate students across campus
• Training and leadership development
• Coordinate Union events and recruitment activities
• Represent the Union to the administration and community
• Help develop platform and bargaining strategies
• Manage membership data and Union finances
• Maintain office infrastructure
• Respond to the needs of a volunteer-run organization
The GEO prefers applicants who have:
• Organizing experience, especially related to unions, higher education, and/or political action
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations
• Strong one-on-one organizing skills
• Ability to work with office management and informational systems
• Experience as a staff member in a volunteer-run organization
• Ability to manage time and coordinate multiple projects in high-stress situations
• Basic computing knowledge including experience with Microsoft Office and Access
• Ability both to work independently and to facilitate group interactions
• Experience in the labor movement
The GEO is looking to hire an applicant to begin in January 2006. Applications are being accepted through November 8, 2005. Candidates should be interested in a 2-3 year commitment. Salary is ,900 and increases yearly at the same rate negotiated in the GEO contract. Healthcare and generous benefits are included.
